Goverdhan Mandir, located near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, is a sacred temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and the revered Goverdhan Hill. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna lifted the entire Goverdhan Hill on his little finger to protect the villagers of Vrindavan from the wrath of Indra, the rain god. The temple commemorates this divine act and is a major pilgrimage site for devotees of Krishna.
The temple complex is situated at the base of the 8-kilometer-long Goverdhan Parvat, which devotees traditionally circumambulate in a ritual called Goverdhan Parikrama. Pilgrims often walk the full circumambulation, sometimes barefoot, as an act of devotion and penance. The temple is especially vibrant during Govardhan Puja, which follows Diwali, and attracts thousands of devotees every year.
Goverdhan Mandir is not only a spiritual landmark but also a center for cultural and religious activities, offering devotees a chance to connect deeply with Krishna bhakti and the traditions of Vrindavan.
