Gangotri Temple, located in the scenic Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, is one of the most sacred Hindu temples dedicated to Goddess Ganga. Situated at an elevation of 3,100 meters (10,200 feet) on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, it marks the origin of the holy Ganges. The temple was originally built by Pandit Khushalchand in the 18th century and later renovated.

The presiding deity, Ganga Devi, is worshipped in the form of a black stone idol. Gangotri Temple is a major pilgrimage destination, especially during the Gangotri Yatra, which takes place from late April to mid-November, when the temple is accessible after the winter snow. Devotees perform rituals and offer prayers to seek purification and blessings from the sacred river goddess.

The temple is not only a spiritual landmark but also a gateway to the Gangotri Glacier, the source of the Bhagirathi River. Its serene surroundings, Himalayan backdrop, and spiritual significance make Gangotri Temple a must-visit destination for devotees and trekkers alike.
