Bhoomi Poojan (भूमि पूजन) is a sacred Hindu ritual performed before starting the construction of a building, house, temple, or any major structure. The word Bhoomi means “Earth” and Poojan means “worship.” In this ceremony, Mother Earth (Bhumi Devi), Vastu Purusha, and the deities of the directions are invoked and worshipped to seek blessings for a strong foundation, prosperity, and harmony.
It is believed that since the land is being disturbed during digging and construction, prayers must be offered to honor the Earth and seek forgiveness for any harm caused to living beings beneath the soil. The ritual also helps remove negative energies and ensures peace, growth, and well-being for the future occupants.
भूमि पूजन एक पवित्र हिंदू अनुष्ठान है, जिसे किसी भवन, घर, मंदिर या किसी बड़े निर्माण कार्य की शुरुआत से पहले किया जाता है। ‘भूमि’ का अर्थ है पृथ्वी और ‘पूजन’ का अर्थ है आराधना। इस अनुष्ठान में माता पृथ्वी (भूमि देवी), वास्तु पुरुष और दिशाओं के देवताओं का आह्वान एवं पूजन किया जाता है, ताकि मजबूत नींव, समृद्धि और सामंजस्य का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त हो सके।
ऐसा माना जाता है कि जब भूमि की खुदाई और निर्माण किया जाता है तो धरती माता को कष्ट पहुँचता है और भूमिगत जीव-जंतुओं को हानि हो सकती है। इसलिए प्रार्थना और पूजन के माध्यम से पृथ्वी माता से क्षमा माँगी जाती है। यह अनुष्ठान नकारात्मक ऊर्जाओं को दूर करता है और भावी निवासियों के जीवन में शांति, प्रगति और कल्याण सुनिश्चित करता है।
